Cisco Mini Gbic Transceiver
GBIC stands for Gigabit Interface Converter and it is a common standard for network transceivers designed to run Gigabit Ethernet. It provides a standard interface to which hot swappable modules can be inserted that can provide both copper and fibre connectivity, both single mode and multimode over fibre. The use of a GBIC revolutionised network devices such as routers and switches that were largely fixed physical configuration devices. Now a network administrator has the flexibility to purchase a basic unit with available GBIC slots and choose an appropriate technology according to the needs of the network.
The SFF (Small Form Factor) Committee are responsible for the GBIC standards, ensuring that all vendors who comply with the standard are ensured interoperability with other vendors equipment.
Commonly today, we use a small form factor pluggable transceiver known as a mini-GBIC or SFP.
As we sell Cisco routers and switches, we also stock a range of Cisco mini gbic transceiver as well as transceivers from other manufacturers such as Netgear, D-Link, HP and StarTech.com. Cisco produce an extensive range of SFP transceivers so suit most situations and most of our customers who purchase a Cisco router or Cisco switch with slots for Gbics would purchase a Cisco mini gbic transceiver. An example Cisco SFP might be the CISCO GLC-SX-MM-RGD=, desigined for use with Mulltimode Fibre over short distances up to 220 Metres, this Cisco mini gbic transceiver has been designed to work in industrial applications, hence the RGD (Ruggedised) suffix on the part number. It comes with a single LC/PC connector and is hot swappable like most of the Cisco GBIC family
www.ipexpress.co.uk have a range of mini-GBICs for sale, including an extensive range of Cisco mini GBIC transceiver, most of which can be delivered within 2-4 days.
