Wireless Access Point

A wireless access point connects wireless enabled devices to a wired network or the Internet. It is the common connection point for wireless devices on the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). In larger networks the WLAN may consist of several wireless access points to provide radio or wireless coverage over a larger geographical area. This can also have the added benefit of allowing some wireless enabled devices to roam between multiple wireless access points in a similar way that mobile phones roam between base transceiver stations.

Wireless security is important an all wireless access points normally employ industry standard security standards such as WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access), IEEE 802.1x or TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol), to name a few.
